Any adverse effects to doing this? Yes I searched but didn't quite find what I was looking for.

I'm planning on mounting a winch upside down under the radiator support, so here's the question.

This is a foot down winch and the cable spools from under to the top. When it's flipped over it will be foot up spooling from top to bottom, Anything wrong with that? Aside from the switch being backwards, which should be a matter or flipping some wires around.

it wont work due to the brake.... why not just do a foot forward? stronger that way...

Not enough room to mount it foot forward and there are a couple people on here that have mounted it that way. Why would simply flipping the winch upside down cause the brake to be engaged when powering in?

if your talking about running the line on top with it flipped, it should work... I thought you where talking about spooling it the opposite way...

I think most winches that mount foot down have captive nuts in the casting, and mounting bolts go through the winchmount into the winch... that means you will need quite a bit of room between the core support and mount, if you want to be able to mount/ dismount the winch... winch could end up hanging pretty low.

But the winch should not care if it is rightside up, upside down, or on it's side, as long as you don't unspool the cable and rewind it differently.

I was already building a bumper, so I could have mounted it anyway I pleased, but glad I went foot forward. Left me enough room for the P.S. cooler under the radiator too...

I want your bumper. Send me the plans if you could!!!

Plans? What the Hell are those?

What I should have mentioned above, is that my winch is foot forward, but it is also upside down. The cable used to spool out from the bottom side of the drum - now it's on the top. Nothing else has changed, as far as the cable is related to the rest of the winch...

I need plans so I can have my friend make it, I don't want to pay a ridiculous amount to have someone copy your design!

O.K. More on topic:

this is from several months ago when I was arguing about winch mounting positions on another site. I think you can view pics there without an account... I think. There were a few links in that thread that were very helpful.
