OK I'm in the process of moving to Wyoming and just blew the lower radiator hose on my blazer. Is there anyone in this area that could help me. I made it to a motel but now have no way to get parts. I have the tools but need a lower road hose. Pm me if you can help I'll send you my phone number to reach me. I'm in the motel 6 just off the freeway.

I was thinking I will do that. But its 2:15 am here now so no parts stores open either. Just going to have to wait til morning.

Any ideas what could cause the lower hose to blow off the water pump? Engine was running at 175 and has never been over 200 since it was built and installed. So I don't think it was from over heating. Just ran compression check and the 6 cylinders I could get to showed same compression as they did when I left home 950 miles ago. Don't have my leak down tester so I couldn't check leak down but its a pretty fresh engine with less than 2k miles on it.

I'm just trying to figure out what to do before I continue on to wyoming . Can't sleep because my truck is broke down.

Likely just a loose/defective clamp or an old/defective hose. The lower hose is the hose that has suction on it from the water pump. Do it's unlikely that it blew off due to a build up of pressure.

Its a new hose I replaced the whole cooling system when I installed the engine. Weird thing is that it blew just after I shut the blazer off to go into the motel to register for the night. I have some extra clamps with me I'll put the hose back on with a new clamp in the morning if it isn't cracked.
Seems she doesn't like to stop for the night last night just after I decided to pull off in winnemucca nv she blew a front tire while I was doing 65 on I 80. Now I decide to pull off here for the night and the road hose blows. Maybe I should have just driven straight through like I had originally planned and had my girlfriend just sleep while I was driving and not give in to her wanting to get a motel room.

A local parts store will deliver if you ask nice and maybe offer a ten spot for the driver.

I had to do this once when I was broke down out of town and it worked out great.

Call Eric, I'll PM you his phone number. He was down in California racing last weekend but I'd imagine he should be home by now. He lives in Idaho Falls just an hour or two North of you and is quite mechanically inclined. He probably has a rad hose sitting on the shelf. If he isn't home, he has all the connections you could imagine with folks that can help you out!

Pretty sure Napa would deliver without any hassles.

Why it blew off? who knows.

Did you retighten the hose after initial install? I didn't think that was ever an issue, saw the same thing happen on another truck (new hoses, didn't re-tighten after some use) and on my truck was losing pressure at higher temps through leaking hose clamps.

Probably blew when you turned it off because temp (and thus pressure) will spike immediately after turning a hot vehicle off, as the water stops circulating but the cylinders and heads are still very hot.

Don't think I'd make too much of it if everything was kosher before this happened.

Update.....
Hose is back on. Found out the alt tensioned bolt loosened up letting the alt belt slip off and get caught in the fan. That in turn took out the lower hose.
I put the belt back on and tightened the bolt back down.

New problem is she is smelling like she's pumping fuel out of the exhaust while cranking and just won't catch. If you hold down the throttle all the way it will catch for a second then dies as soon as you let off the key.

This is where my lack of knowledge about K5 shows. If its a mechanical pump in the engine, pull the dip stick and check for an overfull condition that smells like gas.

The diaphragm may have ruptured and is pumping gas into the block. I really think yours is too new and is FI, but that is too much a potential diaster to rely on "I think".
Otherwise, stop and look over things again. The engine was running before the belt problem, so look close to see if that belt did anything else.

Like a wire loose,or something damaged. Any way it could have gotten under the air cleaner and damaged something there?
Sounds like your injectors are leaking if its injected. Otherwise the choke linkage might have taken a hit.

Belts in the fan can do strange things.

It's carb'd I'm thinking one of the biggest problems is that it is jetted for sea level and I'm now at 6000ft or so. So its already rich from that.

Eric is heading this way to help me diagnose and hopefully repair it.

He's a cool dude :waytogo:. Whereabouts in Wyoming are you headed?

Sounds like Eric got him up to Idaho Falls and is working on getting it running a bit better. I'm sure he'll post up an update later tonight!
