Urgent Tranny Help Needed!!!!!!!!!!!

My buddy has a 2001 Z-71 with the 5.3L motor and automatic transmission.

He was down at the river a few minutes ago. He put the transmission in reverse and heard a pop when trying to back up. When the truck is in reverse it acts as if the truck is in neutral. The truck still drives and shifts fine in all forward gears.

I haven't checked fluid level or smelled the fluid because it is pouring rain outside.

Please Help!!!

Sounds like he lost his reverse Sorry, I`m no help...maybe check the shift linkage?

sounds like a band broke, saw it once on a hd acroos the street when they were trying to back a fith wheel up the driveway.

Same thing happend to the 95 Z71 that tried to pull me out of my avaitar.

It's the reverse/low sun shell... about $90 part. Just had to replace mine about 6 months ago... It's a common failure item, just replace with a heavy duty unit. Hope this helps...

Would that require tearing down the entire transmission to do?

Yeah, It's at the rear of the tranny... might as well rebuilt the tranny while you have it out...
