when I first got the truck I have now I installed a comp 268h cam in it. It worked great, good power range and decent fuel mileage. I hang out with a lot of guys that build race cars and got the idea to install a larger cam. It works good on the street and sounds really cool but the other day I found out that it really sucks on the trail. the truck really needs a higher stall for it to idle right in gear and it just sucks offroad. well a guy I work with is wanting to build a budget motor and offered to trade me a new core support with good trim and headlight bezels for the cam that is in my motor now. I decided that would be a good idea and I can put the comp cam back in my truck.

my question is would reusing this cam hurt anything? I have all the lifters in the boxes marked as to which valve they go with so I can put them all back. the cam and lifters have hardly any wear on them so I figured it would be ok.

also would I need break in lube or to "break in" the cam since its already been ran in the motor?

If this would pose a problem can pick up a new cam and lifter set but would prefer to just use the one Ive got. thanks for the help.

As long as it's the original matched cam/lifters, and the lifters are matched to the right lobes, no problem I'm aware of.

yeah I definately kept them in order cause I wanted to keep the option open. thanks for the opinions, looks like Ill be swapping back my old cam this weekend.

Next time don't let your race car buddys influence your 4X4. Completely different needs (as you've quickly found out).

No problem though to swap the old cam back in since you've labeled the lifters to mate back up with the original cam lobes.
