I'm thinking about buying a winch for my blazer so I started looking on craigs list to see if I could find a good deal on one.

I'm looking for a 8000-10000lb winch what I am finding is used people are asking $500 for these old ratty looking winches. Which online you can find brand new winches for similar prices. Are people just smoking crack or what?

You get what you pay for . those 500.00 brand new winches are not the bargain you think .

I'd rather pay 800.00 for a Used warn winch than 500.00 for a brand new "off brand winch"

a person i know has taken back and got warrenty 4 times the cheep 500 doller 10k winch that sam's club sells under the champion line.

you dont need a winch to let you down when you realy need it. buy good and have fun. and a good rule of thumb is 1.5 to 2 x the weight of your rig for winch rating. so if 6klbs rig 10-12k winch is best.

I found a 12k ramsey in my local classifieds yesterday for $600. i've seen a 12k ramsey pull out a k5 w/44's, that was sittin on the rocker panels, we had tried a 8274 warn, it wouldn't budge it. the ramsey and the warn both respooled their cables about the same time and when the warn was thru, the ramsey still had 1/2 his cable out. i guess its better to be slow and pull more than have a fast line speed.

the deals are out there you just have to look...i got a warn 9000 for 400$ and its not that old. guy just didnt need it anymore:D

just like the d60 deals. i traded a 3000lb atv winch and about $80 in diesel for my second 8274. had to put another $100 in the winch, but it works very well.

the winches I have been looking at are the mile marker brand. Brand new in the $500 price range from 4wheelparts.com

The one I see on craigslist look like they were made in the 50s they look so ratty. I understand you get whay you pay for but come one their either is some secret I dont know about or these people are smoking crack.

I know people hammer on milemarkers and others but I have several freinds with milemarkers and no problems the t max guys have had more problems with thiers, my buddys milemarker 12 has pulled me out several times. We are not easy on winches. I personally would be comfortable with a milemarker no problem.

And yeah people are smoking crack for the price they want for used winches. You can't find an 8274 around here for less than 750 even ones that are totally hammered and need rebuilt go for 500. Unless you got a buddy selling one or run into someone who doesn't know what they are worth
