Useing 1 wire alt

Is the anything wrong with useing this alt? Or one like it in the same price range [ im a poor boy]

http://www.jcwhitney.com/ONE-WIRE-ALTERNATORS/GP_2005056_N_111+10201+600001592_10101.jcw

And what do I do with the other 2 wires?

$130 for a 60-80A is cheap?

For that you can go into your local parts house and get a 90A Cadillac alternator AND pay the core (or give them your old one, as it's the same case size.)

I did this on my BBC, dropped right in, same wiring, etc. If you want, ping me and I'll get the part # and application from my guy here in town.

Heck, for $130 you can prolly get a Transsport alternator, which is 140A, but then you have another $10 in wiring and plugs to make it fit the older trucks. It's a different case size, too, but it does bolt up to SBC brackets (at least it did on my '74. It did NOT bolt up on my '74 BBC, fwiw.)

One each 12SI case 94A alternator should be a drop-in to your '77. I paid $72 for mine from my local good guy parts house; core was $25 on top of that (I had an old one for the core.) It's an OCA 72943, which crossrefs thusly. God I love the Internet.

Looks like Kragen (Schucks, Checker) has 'em for $90 (plus $22 core)

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=ATR&MfrPartNumber=A7294&PartType=11&PTSet=A

they actually list a bunch of variations, some cheaper (like ~$80 plus core), so I'd go into the store and tell them it's a 1985 C30 pickup and tell them you want the 94A alternator, they should find it eventually.

Still better than $130. :deal:

And oh yeah, do a search on one-wires... seems like some folks don't like 'em, others love 'em, but in this case I don't see spending another $40 or so just to get yourself wiring hassles when you can get a higher output, drop-in one for less ;)

It never fails , the next day after posting this , I find info on the CS Alt conversion...:doah:
AND I wasn't even looking for it...Just thought I`d see if there was any new Tech articles.

Every time I have a question it seems like you have the answer for me :) THANKS.

Well, I'm *down* to two 73-91 fullsizes, having been through five of them (lost one in a divorce, sold two) so I've been through a lot of the issues and upgrades common to these trucks. I figger if I can save the next guy some of the time I've spent researching, and frustration under the truck, I'm doing well.

I still think that the 94A stock alternator is gonna be easier/cheaper than a 12SI and re-wiring, but that said, I've done the rewiring and it's easy enough. (Plus, a stock alternator that puts out 140A rated, and came with a sheet saying this one did 160A, is just plain sexy for a truck with a winch and three batteries ;) )

Which one(s) did you say were a drop in,an same wireing? Thats the # an truck/car I need to know.
I tried to get a temp switch yesterday and he could`nt do anything untill I told him what it went it.....after 30 mins going round and round we got one I "think" might work. Got the plug for the water pump by pulling one off the shelf and going through the nuts..

You need to find you a better parts house.

ANY of the numbers in the list above are good; they're all the same, should drop into your '77. I believe a 1985 C30 pickup (big block) will pull up the long list, and you can then demand the 94A alternator and get the same one. (All the SI's have the same case, but the ears are differently rotated versus the big wire stud, so this one should have the same rotation and such as your old one.)

The Transsport one is one of the CS style, bigger case, and has the newer wiring so you have to fiddle with it.

Make more sense?

Hi Dafey. I think you did it right. Keep it up. :D

Im guessing you're speaking of the red x's?

That post is almost 2 and a half years old, and sometimes the pics are taken down from the site hosting them or whatever.

Everyone here gets along very well for the most part, but I wouldnt start ripping on people with only having 3 posts, it might leave us with a bad first impression.

I think cerealjoe is a bot.

Three posts....the responses look like this:

"I had experience the holley remanufactures quadrajets and it is very nice. Try it! :D"

"Hi dyeager535. I like the Tunerpro RT. It is cool when I use it. :D"

"Hi Dafey. I think you did it right. Keep it up. :D"

Anyone see a pattern here??

These dickwads are getting more clever.... :angry1:
