using a 77-78 blazer frame with a 81 chevy stepside

i thought that all the frames for chevy trucks and blazers were the same, but it appears that the stepside wheelbase is about 10 inches longer than the blazer. I thought it would be a direct bolt on. Any comments or suggestions about this would be appreciated. PS-thanks Eads for the great deal on the Blazer /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

There is no way to do it I run a 77 cab and 76 or near there stepside bed I cut all the way to the front of the fender and it is still not centered over the tire about an inch off. the frame needs the crossmember for the back of the cab also. I made one bot the truck crossmember should fit if he can get one. check my pics i have a close one notice the step is cut all the way out.

Angle cut and stitch the frame so it's 10 inches shorter in the rear. Measure carefully so that the axle will look proportioned in the wheelwell. You may have to take a 10" chunk out of the center or X inches out of the center and 10-X inches off the tail so that the axle is "centered" in the wheelwell.

I have a bare '85 SWB K10 frame laying in my yard by the garage for sale. It's in perfect condition, too. I have a photo copy of the title for it also.

The Cab bolted right up though. That looks really sweet. Maybe I can talk him into doing that, and then all those extra blazers parts will just be begging to go on my truck!

The front is bolt right on the rear you have options I made a crossmember but after the fact found out that the truck frame crossmember goes right in you need the body bushings from a truck for the rear because they are 3" tall. But it is all very easy I have no special mechanical skill and I did it.
