Using winaldl?

Im about to try my hand at data logging tomorrow. So is all i need to do is plug in my cable to my laptop and data ports, then bring up winaldl and it will automatically read it? Like a scan tool?

Dangit! Turns out the serial port on my laptop is a 15 pin and not a nine pin!!! fart.
