Utility Trailers - Ol' blue - LED Conversion!

Well, i'm back in escrow on a house, and back browsing trailers.

Don't absolutely need one, but hoping to find a deal on something decent.

Leaning towards open single axle, or a truck bed trailer. Will get used for the move, then for home improvement projects, trash runs, etc.

Just posting up in case someone see something out there...

Got a deal on a truck bed trailer.

long bed 80's chevy 1/2 ton.

Decent shape, well put together, decent wood sides. Came with a title, spare tire, and working lights. Tows like a dream, $300.

Hard to go wrong for that cost, and can easily sell it for that if i choose to later.

Will be great for the move, and will be nice to have around the house for remodel house and general open bed stuff. I'm pleased.

I'll post up pics when its light out.

Definitely the most redneck purchase I've made in a while, but I'm excited. Someone even put fence mesh across a window in the front board so you can see through the back while towing [emoji3]

Haven't seen daylight at home in a few days.

Ol' blue is ugly, but excited to have it in the fleet. Haha

I'd be putting that bed on my truck, and decking the trailer frame with wood!.:eek1:--you dont see beds in that shape here too often..(not for 300 bucks anyway!)..

Now you have a spare diff too!..and frame rails,if you ever need the rear section...:D

I have an old '62 GMC 3/4 ton 2WD frame that someone made into a trailer,it has an Eaton FF under it with 4:56 gears..thing is in better shape than my '82 GMC's frame is,and its been sitting under pine trees for 12+ years..only thing rotted on it is the trailing arms for the coil springs,I had to weld angle iron over them to beef them back up..coils on the springs are like 1" thick too!..:eek1:

I have a 8ft pickup bed trailer also .

only thing I will do at some point is convert to 8lug and also get a trailer axle with ELECTRIC BRAKES to help with heavy loads / make it legal for weight class .

The one I have used to have the original master cylinder off the truck it was made from mounted on the tongue, set up for surge brakes, but the guy I got it from had removed it when the coupler got worn out,he just welded a typical one on it..he towed it with a dually and said he never missed it not having brakes..

Finally got through the dmv reg, and moved with the trailer this weekend

Old blue definitely earned its keep.

Ordered a tongue jack, 2" coupler, new 5 wire harness, and installed some newer lights on it. Thanks for the lights terry!

Planning to rewire and install some under glow type LEDs to the backup circuit. Tough to back the short trailer up in the dark.

The 91 and old blue got the whole move done this weekend. Left the Dmax parked, the 350 is so much happier doing short trips in the cold than the diesel.

Its got original steel wheels and hubcaps that are in good shape. Kinda digging the old look.

What's that white stuff on the ground and the roof of the truck? :haha:

(I'm actually now like ten minutes from your old stomping grounds, and while there's a bit of drizzle down here, it sure don't look like that!)

Need to get my garage unpacked so I can do a bit of trailer upgrades. Need to rewire, replace the coupler and jack, and mount the spare tire. Want to put it underneath.

How does the factory under bed mount work? Never owned a truck.

I did that with 2 spares on a 12k trailer. Never had a spare stolen and thy were out of the sun. I drilled holes in the 2x6 frame rails for the crank access.

Was the factory one in the 80's a crank down? I always thought it was on some sort of drop down holder.

I went later. 2005 or so. I looked at the one under my 2005 3500 and thought "that would work perfectly." Hit up the local truck yard and they handed me 2 for $20 cash.
