So Cal.
I bought/scored this winch today. Went to HF just to get a tarp for the coming storm for my truck, the old tarp is getting old, was time for a new one. They were having there typical sidewalk sale and there was a "opened box" table with items on sale. I asked if it was a return, they said no just had been opened so it was a extra discounted price. I opened it up, didn't seem to be missing anything. Regular price is $139.99 marked down to $89.99. I'm probably going to use this to raise and lower my tire carrier setup for the rear bumper tire carrier I'm building. It said on the box "5 day only return warranty" I said to the manager that that was lame. He said he would do the regular 30 day full refund return on it. I got it in writing too.

It's a 1500 lb unit but it's an AC 110v plug in, and 1500 lb is plenty strong enough. I'm going to have a plug in in the back of my truck for it and accessories too. My unit is portable as long as I have power. I plugged it in, spooled it out and in, works great unloaded. Not too slow for a tire carrier drop down at all. Sure it's a cheap import but it actually seems like a quality winch for what it is. I'm stoked!! :D

nice score!

Im curious about the tire carrier tho. Really seems like alot of energy just to lower a tire carrier down. its not DC so you need the inverter, then what if the juice dies?

isnt there a better way? maybe use some trunk shocks or something?

So. No offense - but does that mean your truck's gonna be out on the trail in 6 days?

Not 6 days, more like 365 days......maybe. If thats what your implying. :D

I will be building a tire carrier totally different. Not a stinger style like others. Will be a one of a kind carrier. I'll post a thread when the build is just about finished. I could use a assist shock too I guess, I just like the idea of minimizing the labor involved it dealing with the tire during a tire change.

If that's what you want to use, then great, but why not use this one? It's 12volt, 3000lb, has a wireless remote, and $49 until tomorrow. It's on the top of page two. http://www.harborfreightusa.com/usa...eBook.do?bookid=267&preview=&type=RET&simple= http://www.harborfreightusa.com/usa/itemdisplay/displayItem.do?itemid=+95912&submit2=find+it

Thats a good price with some good weight capacity too! As I said, I was there for a tarp only, just happen to walk by the "open box" discount table and saw the winch sitting there. Never even looked at a flyer, so I didn't see the winch you posted. I got in and got out. Looks like I might have to go take a look at that winch. I can return mine no problem.

Can't beat that, I've got one simmilar. I mounted it in a reciever tube and use it to lift stuff in the shop off an I hook in the cieling.

I'm on their email list, so I shop from my chair. I just wanted to make sure you saw it before the sale was over.

Ok, so I went and bought the winch today gone huntin poster about. Hell it's only 50 bucks, reg is 100. I'll have to wire it up to a battery and give it a try. Will not be for a few days though, We have rain like hell coming and it's already started. I actually like the fact that the first one I bought it 110v plug in. It just more portable. This 12v will just be wired in and stay in and with the truck if I use it and don't take it back.

i had one of those not too long ago. it came with a wireless remote that was flat out junk. I eneded up needing to redo the solinoid to make it run. motor was strong just plan on wiring in a different solinoid.

Cool, thanks for the info, Bummer too though. Did you just get a different remote for it? What brand solinoid, HF or better? I don't NEED the 3K one, just trying it out. The 1500lb 110v AC one is fine really and it's not wireless. I could just take the 3K back. What do you suggest, just return it and be done with it?

A buddy stumbled acrossed a sale on the HF 12v 3000 LB winches and bought two, I think he said he paid $39.95 for them...anyway when he needed a toyota hauled that was non op he offered me one if we could use my trailer. Coupled to a little Gel cell battery out of an electric wheelchair (he works for a medical equipment repair place) it has worked flawlessly for 3 years now. I havent touched it since I installed it and it isn't even in an enclosed box to protect it from the elements. Great little winch:laugh:

I did get a different remote for it, but the replacement was a little different and didnt work on my winch. I wound up wiring in a switch instead.

If memory serves, the solinoid really isnt a solinoid but rather a simple relay. I replaced it with one that I had kicking around, I think it came from a cherokee.

In your app, it sure would be nice to have a 12volt unit vs a winch you need an inverter to run. If this one is mounted outside the rig, just make sure the motor is well sealed, you should be good to go. never really had any complaints about the motor itself.

Cabelas here has a sale on a 2000lb superwinch, with remote. Its an atv winch with the wiring and a handle bar mount rocker switch. On sale now its 99.99 at christmas time it was 89.99. I just missed the sale and bought it for 99.99, had to have on ordered in tho. Shipping might have ruined the deal, im glad its only 25 min away from me. Ill use mine to lift my atv plow up and down on my king quad..

The handlebar switch might work good, you could run the wire through the tube to the switch..

Harbor freight has a crap load of winches on the shelf here, everytime im in there i dont ever see anyone buying them, i was going to buy the smaller one but found the superwinch instead.

Yeah, My Snap On guy has Inverters on sale righ now. I'm buying one this week so I can plug in the 110v AC winch or accessories.
