I searched around but couldnt find a definite answer, but is there any way I can swap a stock tbi setup into my '76 K5 and keep my nice hi dollar billet hei distributor with vacuum advance? I'd rather not have to replace it with a stocker, and its only 2 months old. What is the minimum amount of sensor and wiring I could run and have it all work, I dont need any emissions equipment on it either. Thanks guys,

Jeff

TBI ECM is usually best served by a computer controlled distributor. You can run it on a mechanical/vacuum unit but it will require computer mods and somewhat defeats the purpose.

What kind of distributor do you have. As long as you can lock out all of the advance it should work. I usually just connect the pickup wires to a TBI style ignition module, so it's just a plug and play deal. I need to know what style of pickup the distributor has and I can tell you how to connect it.

The minimum to get a TBI running: MAP, TPS, coolant temp and oxygen sensors. If you do away with the EGR then you'll need to get a chip burned to prevent codes. I like to have a speed sensor to make the TCC computer controlled.

I have a pertronix flamethrower billet with vac advance. I can lock it out, so it looks like Ill need a custom chip though due to no egr and the distributor.

TBI distributor control makes for some really nice idle.... :)

I feel your pain though, perhaps you could sell it for a slight loss in $$?

The Pertronix dizzy has the ignition module and the pick up tied into one unit. I've never tried connecting a module directly into the TBI module before, but I think it'll still work ok, it's worth a try.

If it's something you want to pursue let me know and I'll post pictures of what you'll need to do.
