So on this Edelbrock Q-jet I notice that if I spray Gumout at the passenger side of the carb right at the secondary throtle shaft coming out of the base plate, the rpm's go up. So I have a vacuum leak there, right? Is it at all normal to have a little leak there or do I really need to take it all apart and drill it out and install new bushings? Do I have to have a drill press to do this? It would be nice if a little leak was nothing to worry about.

How's it run?

What's your idle speed? Thats where you'll see it first...

Bushings are usually an age related ailment...

It doesn't run too bad. It idles fine at 725 rpms and varies about 50 rpms so it 's not a dead constant idle speed. It does seem to idle a little rougher now in this hot weather. The carb is only a couple years old.

try wiggling the shaft and see if the idle fluctuates..

unusual for them to wear out that fast, especially secondaries...

well, it's what you think. it will get progressively worse, affecting idle first.. load it with white lube and let it fly.. :haha:

If jiggling it doesn't show any changes, make sure it's not the base gasket in that area.... very easy to assume they are good, but actually have developed a leak...
