Vacuum line nightmare! HELP

he hooks into the vacuum line, and pumps smoke into the system so you can literally see where the problems are...

FYI, #5 appears to be a pressure switch to kick the idle up when the pump pressure increases, IE, when turning at low vehicle speeds. I am/was unaware anything like this was utilized on the non-fuel injected vehicles, however they did the same thing for AC IIRC on carbed rigs, so who knows. Connector looks too new for '81 IMO though.

Wish I would have thought about that piece before I replaced my pressure hose, I wouldn't mind having one for my setup.

lol - well who knows maybe I could send you one! :haha: since I have one, and nothing to connect it to...

In looking at it, you'd need the whole thing, hoses, plus the switch. Hoses are close to what "stock" is without the switch, but to replace that setup, you'd just get the normal pressure hose, as it will have the bend in it to go into the steering box. I'd suggest leaving it until the pressure line starts leaking. Touching/bending the pressure hose at this point in it's life almost unfailingly results in leaks. :)

I know GM commonly used the pressure switches on cars in the 80's/early 90's, I thought it would be fun to play around with, see if you couldn't get more "variable" power assist, so that down the freeway you could feel the road, when off-road or turning at slow speed you'd still get assist.
