well, the following question is a bit embarrassing to me, so don't laugh...
last year I decided to play a bit with my good ole 6.2, hooked up the wiring and the engine did not run... so i checked the fuel supply, got a diesel bath and very dirty fingers, but after a couple hours i ran out of steam... since that I'm wondering why the dirty old sucker didn't want to start:

glow plugs worket, I checked them about 3 times, fuel supply worked, etc.
but: the vacuum pump wasn't installed, so does that anything have to do with the starting problems?

several other reasons I came up with:
cranking speed to slow
injection pump didn't inject any/enough fuel fuel ( I bleeded the injector lines) =>but I removed all glow plugs and diesel fumes (fine mist/don't know if that's correct english now ) was pushed out of the empty glow plug holes.

so, any vacuum needed for starting? (maybe the egr system blocked something, i don't know?)

I'm looking forward to hear your opinions!

greetings

flo

You're VERY lucky that your engine didn't start!

The vaccum pump also drives the oil pump on your engine, just like the distributors on a gasoline engine run their oil pumps as well. My guess would be that you need to bleed your injection system BTW, crack open all your injectors and crank until fuel comes out of all of them, close them up and try again with glow plugs.

Make sure you check that you hooked up your fuel shutoff solenoid wire to the right terminal. There is multiple terminals on the mechanical 6.2 and it is easy to get them mixed up.

Just throwing it out there since you stated that you hooked up the wiring.
