Is it possible to put a valve cover on backwards. On my 91' the oil filler is in the back behind the brake booster(I didn't do it, I bought the truck and have not touched the engine other than oil changes). I bought a code reader to figure out my check engine light and when I pulled the filter I noticed the crankcase breather tube had electrical tape on it. So when I pulled apart it had the black tube from the tbi shoved in a larger hose and taped up to fill the gaps. So I went to local junkyards and didn't see any that looked like mine. So is it possible the for them to go on backwards?

Ok thanks, so its as simple as unbolting and flipping it to correct it.

Up pretty easy.

Just double check the valve cover gromets tight PCV fitment and breather tube tightness.

Not a problem if you have a bar gromet as most auto parts stores have an assortment

Thanks.

Im going to have to find a new breather tube because the po hacked the other one up.

If they are the factory center bolt valve covers you CANNOT install them upside down because the bolts are not exactly in the center however the someone may have used 2 of the same valve covers.

Yeah they are the center ones. I went and looked at it again and the pcv valve on the pass side is in the rear. And after looking at stock looking subs on ebay and craigs the oil filler is not where mine is. did chevy move the oil filler around on later model trucks?

My 89 Blazer had the oil fill cap on the driver side front of valve cover, the clean air breather on the rear driver side valve cover and the PCV on the passenger side front valve cover.

ok thanks. I will see what the deal is with it tomorrow when I take it apart. Thanks for the help :thumb:

so it appears that my truck had valve covers off a caprice (after looking around pickapart and seeing the covers on those). So I picked up a pair off a tahoe and now things are correct. Thanks for the help:thumb:
