I've got to change out the valve cover gaskets in my truck and saw the "tabs" or "spreaders" for the valve covers at the parts store. Are these worthwhile? Do you install them with the angled part pointing up? I would assume so. Thanks for the help guys. Oh, I've got a 402 big block sitting in an 82 Jimmy.

I love it when people pull next to me in a car and point at my tire.

They're worth it for the cost to me. Can;t hurt, they just spread the load over a larger area, hopefully improving the seal. I believe the original application for these hold downs were the Corvairs incidentally. : )

No anti-theft measures on your truck? No pity when its stolen

They come from the factory with iddy biddy hold downs. Fel-pro even gives you a set when you buy new valve cover gaskets. I'd just buy some nice big chrome hold downs. The larger size distributes pressure more evenly and reduces the chance of leakage.
