I went to get some new valve covers today since I cracked one of mine and noticed that there where 2 different heights. I got the shorter ones since they both said for small block Chevy 1958-1987. My truck is stock except for a cam, headers and intake. Should I get the taller ones or will the shorts ones be fine? I got the short ones in the first place as they where about $10 cheaper.

What truck/engine are they going on?

I have a set from a 1987 SBC I'll send you if you want. They are OEM.used but in good shape.

Yep mine is a Gen1 with the bolts on the out side.
I cracked one of the last night I guess I put too much torque on it, and it fumed me out. They where the aluminum Mickey Thompson covers and I just got them all cleaned up, but oh well thanks for the offer.

Yeah,I think you'd only use the tall ones on an engine with roller rockers or a really high lift cam--and no AC !..

Not that it matters much in this case, but the staggered bolt pattern changed to straight bolt pattern in mid 59 model year.
