I'm looking for more info on this kit if anyone. My 77 has a lumpy cam and since I will be towing a lot this summer, I want to upgrade the brake system with this kit and also an AGR pump and remote res. This is my family wagon, not DD or wheeler. I've already done a search and come up with the little techy stuff, but nothing in regards to Vanco.

$645 is a lot for the kit, especially if I can piece it together with new parts locally. Mos tof the swaps I see are donor parts. Anyone piece theirs together with new stuff and if so, where did you get the rod and backing plate?

not much help, but I do know the porting mods they do to the unit are supposed to work well... At some point, I'll be sending them my factory stuff to have the mods done..

Once I get the interior done I'll really start looking at this. Not a bad price after comparing with everyone else, some are over $1000. I'm a mere 11lbs man pressure and it's really effecting the brakes. lol

I'm running an Astro van hydroboost unit on my Blazer with the stock pump and steering box. I used off the shelf lines and have a grand total of $150.00 into the whole setup. The only tricky part is making the rod that attaches to the brake pedal.

From VANCO:

Hi,

The hydra-boost unit would run $795.00 complete with the master and prop valve. This kit includes all required hoses and fittings.

On a side note...would I be correct to assume that any year hydroboost unit and matching MC will work in my 77...and I will simply have to scrounge up a mounting p late and rod?

just find a donor and pull everything... pedals, rod, hydro... then ship the booster out to be tweaked...

the stuff for my 87 K5 is from an 83 K30....

doh... sorry, didn't look.... :doah::wink1:

well, maybe eghey than? patience pays off....

I would think maybe a good used setup shipped for $300 or so? maybe 4.....

heck, I bought mine complete off here, clean, shipped for $200....

If I buy all over the counter, should I stick with 73-81 parts from a Blazer? I've done alot of searching but it seems hydroboost is always a home brew setup unless you drop a ton of coin for a shiny new kit.

I would look at the closest year in a K30 to a 77.... not sure when hydro started...

According to Napa, 1977. Hydro PN NBB529393, MC 4739017.

Would need to match up a 1 5/16 MC for 4whel disc, though.

pretty certain the drum/disc mc would be fine in the right size.. maybe an adjustable p-valve if needed...

I would just look to the same app for the mc...

there are guys here who definitely know more than me on this suject for sure.....

don't forget, without the pedals, you'll be modding them...

I'd like to go with the 4whl disc MC and prop valve, I did a 4whl disc conversion one of my 85's and the brakes were scary in the winter.
