Recently bought an 89 K5 and while driving to the woods, at about 9000', laden down with camping gear and a trailer with an atv the engine just stalled going downhill. Wouldn't start again until the engine and carb cooled down. How can I prevent this in the future? The vehicle also seems to be power starved and has a hard time getting to 60 mph up a small incline, is there a different carb I should get? I can work on motors but I have a hard time troubleshooting them but fixing I can do. Any help would be great.

That should have TBI on it. Do you have a pic of your carb setup?

I'm not sure how to post a pic here yet but it is the stock engine. I verified that with same carb set up as stock.

I primed the carb while I was broke down and it started to turn over but once out of fuel it died. I took that for vapor lock since it has not done it to me since.

A throttle body is not a carb. FYI.

Told you I'm no mechanic but I can change parts. I'm a airplane mechanic so the understanding is there. Still learning...thank you for the help. I'll pick up a fuel filter now and change it. Couldn't hurt and it is cheap.

Wasn't trying to be a dick or anything. Just trying to give you the correct terminology. :thumb:
