My plan was to vertically mount a divorced np205 under my truck. I just read a thread from another forum and a dude said it can't be done do to an oiling issue, but it was a Dodge forum so I would like someone else's impute on this.

Anyone know anything about this or what could be done to fix it?

I don't have the fun tokens to buy one of those fancy drop boxes and I don't want a 400lb military t case under there.

the 208 can be done like this but you lose a mounting bolt and you just need to overfill the case itself. But on the 205 I don't know, I would imagine you would be okay to do this. But don't take my word for it.

Oiling issues could be solved with some minor modifications, but I foresee the output shafts leaking like crazy.

The main reason I want to do this is to have more clearance for the pinion brake. By rotating the third member or chunk on the rockwells it would make the front drive line almost line up directly in the center of the truck. As of right now with the chunk the way it is, I'd have to run an extremely small pinion brake in the front due to the fact the leafs are so close to it.

Are you talking about mounting it where the front output is facing down? So this is probably a large truck I am assuming. But, the front output is always under oil even when its mounted normally. You can do it, but it will take some thinking to operate the shifters as they would move. And, use 2 of the seals on the front yolk. I do that anyways just because I hate leaks. And as far as oiling, your rear output would be the problem, you would have to overfill the case quite a bit.

Yes, I'm trying to get the front output as close to the center of the truck as possible to line up with the output of the front diff. Haha, yes it is going to be a rather large truck. That's what I needed to know, thank you.

O, and you will have to make sure the breather will work tipped up like that. Plus obviously drilling and tapping new holes for fill and drain points.

Several guys I know have massive trucks on 5 tons. They run them tipped like that no prob. They leak here and there, but new seals usually fix that right up. The 205 uses a splash style oiling system. Like your basic lawnmower. So, as long as its splashing enough oil up onto the input/rear output, you will be fine.

Thanks again.

I've seen a lot of guys mounting np 200s like you are saying. I would think you would be ok with the 205
