Very cheap ($800) 16 foot 12k lb trailer? Is trailer too short to put a K5 on?

I have a lead on a 16 foot trailer with two 6k lb axles under it. I can probably get it for $800. Good tires, electric brakes, it just needs some cosmetic work done.

Anyone have any input on putting a K5 on a 16 foot trailer?

My truck has 1 tons, 6” lift, and 38x12.5” tires on 15x10 wheels if that helps any.

I know ideally I would want a 18 or 20 foot trailer, but because of the good price on this one I am looking into it. Thanks for any input.

16 is long enough. I've hauled k20s on my 18 footer with no problem. Just make sure it's wide enough for your k5, since I don't know what deck width you're looking at.

16 foot is plenty long enough. You will have to pay attention to trailer width so that your rear tires will fit between the fenders. If you have to drive over the fenders your limited on tongue weight because how far forward you drive sets the tongue weight. On my old 16' trailer if I put an empty K5 on it I was at the perfect tongue weight with the rear tires up against the trailer fenders (my trailer required driving over the fenders). But I hauled a friends K5 back from camp full of all his gear and the extra weight in the back of the K5 threw off my load distribution enough that I didn't have enough tongue weight. I couldn't pull the K5 any farther forward due to interference with the fenders.

I had a 7K 16-footer and only went to an 18ft cause that's what they had when I went looking for the 10K.

I traded for two reasons.
1) wanted a 10K trailer.
2) my 7L had 'L' channels the the deck dropped into and the outside of the channel stuck up enough to frig with the tires, the new trailer has a flat deck side to side.

I even brought home a couple suburbans and full size trucks on it.

A Burban will fit easily on an 18' trailer, so a K5 will fit fine on a 16'. The only reason I ended up with an 18', is because it had the axles I was looking for, when I was there.

you should have no trouble fitting between the fenders with your setup. The rear axle is more narrow than your front one. You may have to drive over 1 fender, a little bit with the front, but the rears should fit.

I an running 39.5 tall and 17" wide tires, and my rears almost fit between the fenders. your 12.5 should have no problem.

IIWY.... I would have already bought that trailer.

I have a 16' and have no problems with mine fitting or towing it with the K5 on it. I think width is your biggest issue that you will encounter.

it will fit fine length wise, but the width is what you need to look at as stated above. A lot of people I see with narrow trailers swap skinny tires on the front to fit on the trailer, it is a pain but could be done, check the price on the new ones, I just got a 16' with 2' dovetail extra wide trailer, with 3500# axles with one brake for $1000 new.

How wide are they calling "extra wide"?

I believe mine is 82" between the fenders.

Again, you should be fine. I just towed my '72 k5 about 350 miles round trip on a 16' x 84" deck width 9900# trailer and it towed great. I have 35" BFG AT's on it and the total width of the front axle and tires is 84". In a perfect world I would spend about $3500-$4000 on an 18' with 2'-4' beaver tail deck-over trailer. they are typically 8' across the deck and are perfect for full size truck with oversized tires. Depending on what state you are in you may have trouble with the law using a trailer that is rated for 12K# even if you are not towing the full capacity of the trailer.

The trailer I just built is 79" between the fenders, and I can squeeze my k20 on there if I put rollers on. Cant put my 38.5x16x16.5's on there..lol. thinking about making ramps over the fenders, only crappy part is I haul cars with it to, so I have fenders that are hinged so you can get out of a car. Trucks are not a problem.

I have towed a K5 on a 12ft trailer behind an x-tra cab tacoma. The trailer is fairly wide but short. A bigger truck would have made it easier. I recently loaded a K30 on that trailer and the wheelbase just barely fit. A 16ft would be more than adequate for a K5, but it needs to be at least 85" wide between the fenders and even then you might be climbing out the windows because you cant open the doors.
