I started my ford up today and it was up on stands...i look behind me and the rear tires are spining slowly and the truck is in netural???i hit the brakes it didnt stop...i get out touch the tire and they stop for about a min...wtf???i have never seen something like this before..oh its a 4spd manual too..

sounds like wheel cylinder may be old, or brakes out of adjustment in rear, or master cylinder bad.. all these happened to me in my experience with my old truck

I have seen that before. The trans still has a little friction spinning the tires or if it is still engaged in gear you can stop one tire and tranfer the power to the other rear wheel easily. rt rear wheel is the main drive wheel in foreward motion for an open diff.

Hope that helps

mine does the same thing. wondered if maybe the clutch wasn't adjusted right? just an idea. i probably won't do anything with it. if it ain't broke don't fix it

thats how i felt about it too...

Mine spins like that too, but my brakes work...

What causes that is actually the fluid swirling around over the gears causing a slight fluid drive. Just strong enough to turn the tires off the ground, but not to move the truck foward on the ground.

You can get under and grab hold of the drive shaft to stop it and then even rotate it backwards...

All that gear oil in the trans is spinning around causing the gears to turn a little bit.... Nothing to be alarmed about... Ive seen automatics do it too

Had the same thing happen on an International dump truck when I was changing the rear axle seals and a coworker started it up, I had little bread pans in the wheels catching the oil and they got spilled all over when the wheels turned! Seems to me you need to take a look at your rear brakes though, if you couldn't stop the turning by putting on the brakes.
