Hey its me again, did you make that guage frame yourself? I would buy one if you sold them by the way.

yup, same composite glass construction as the other projects in my build thread..

11 separate pieces tabbed together.... Pretty time consuming, as are most of my projects.. If I had to do it again, I could do it in 1/2 the time...

The production dash bezel will not be of the same construction... My dash will be used to make a mold... Then the dashes will be handlaid, vacuum bagged fiberglass...

I'm planning on 3 monthes in the fall to perfect the mold, and hopefully deliver initial orders for X-mas....

Ahh I thought these were metal! Didn't even think about vaccum bagging...

*Goes to find a some MDF and bondo...*

It could definitely be done in metal.. A tigged aluminum one would be bad...

But thats alot of dainty Tig work, I couldn't do it, but I have a friend who can...

I like the glass in this app, it has only advantages over metal as far as I'm concerned.... on many fronts....

Oooohh...I likes.

Any idea on the costs? I skimmed through all 11 pages but might have missed it.

My CUCV just has a speedo and huge gas guage, everything else is an idiot light. Having all of the standard guages would make it sooooo much better.

I think if you could make it verstile enough that the low rider crowd and the guys on here liked it then you'd have a definite seller. I've looked around and only seen the Dakota Digital product as something actually actively in this market...and heard so-so reviews of it. Everything else seems to be custom and from the experience of putting my stereo in I think mine would need to start from scratch. Your option of a full custom replacement sounds good.:cool1:

i want one too... let me know when they start selling or etc.. i would like one for x mas!

My best guesstimate is in the $250, 275 range.... I'll have to see when I get a production time down... shipped in primer or satin black for that... custom colors and configs for nominal fees...

That sounds really good.
How much with a set of basic guages? Nothing fancy - speedo/odo, temp, tach, oil psi, gas, uhmmmmm....

Any thoughts on those of use with diesels? I've got a wait to start light and a water in fuel light.

Just for the sake of asking...that's a standard DIN sized radio hole, correct?

I haven't worked anything up WITH gauges... But as I said in the first post, I'd like to be able to do everything from a basic primed blank, to fully gauged, switched and wired, custom pieces...

but at this point, I'd just be getting my gauges from Summit on a as needed basis for whatever config someone wanted..

diesel, I hadn't really thought about.... like I mentioned, any config of lights, gauge placement, switches, etc is EASILY doable..

Actually that hole is pretty close to a radio size, but no, it originally housed my stock heat controls before I ditched the factory heat... Now it will be used for more of the Contura switches that are on the other side....... Any radio config can easily be done tho..

I can set one up however someone wants/needs... The only non-doable issue at this point is a factory shift indicator.. And only because I had no need for that myself... I could probably work it out if someone donated the mechanism...

My radio is over in the middle of the dash... :D

It looks like a din. What would be really cool is if he could also glas in a metal box for the dins to slide into....

hmmm, I hadn't thought about stereo options at all....

I could most certainly do it custom.. either a box, partial box or bracketry.. obviously thats not a mold thing, but pretty simple to add with composite glass..

Wouldn't feel comfortable with doing it without the DIN case... Are they all standard? i suppose my Sony would be the same as any other...

Now that I think about it a small bracket glassed in would be best. Din radios come with there own metal shroud that slides in, then you bent the little tabs to keep it from coming out. ultimatley you would want to brace it so a)it could hold a radio and b) the tabs had something to stay tight onto.

I was having a brainfart, I know how they are setup, with the foldown tabs, etc...

The dash, "as is" would work great for that... Tabs would wedge in nicely. My dash is 3/16's thick.. Not sure what the layed one up will be, but it'll be close to that...

I'll have to take a peek and see how the back of my Sony gets supported.. I may be able to come up with a removable bracket that mounts to the dash, then to the back of the Din box... angle composite would make it pretty simple...

Just wanted to update this thread due to pm's heading my way...

the mold is coming along and hopefully i'll have the first test dashs coming out in a week or 2 for trial-fit, etc.. new years is the date I'd like to start shipping...

I would love to show you guys mold shots, but at this time, I have to consider it proprietary... :wink1:

thanks for everyones interest!
