So I was out wheel'n this weekend and when coming home I noticed a vibration from about 40 to 50 mph but only when accellerating. I figured it was just mud on the tires and though it would go away after a good bath. So I cleaned it up and found the slipyoke output is leaking a black fluid. (dirty TC fluid I guess) So, I'm wondering if I dinged my drive shaft and tweeked something in the TC output.

Anyone seen this before?

First would be some TLC for the t-case. Vibrations can be hard to track down sometimes. I had something similiar on my 241, turned out to be worn out splines on the slip yoke from mud getting inside the seal.

Well, I've never been a big mudder. I jost go through the puddles with they are in my way. Its a brand new drive shaft so I did get a look at the spline when I replaced it. They were all good. Also, the problem was so immediate. It was just happening all the sudden.

Good thought, I'll greese those up just in case but with the leak from my output, I'm going to have to fix the TC anyway. It's due a rebuild I guess.

Sounds like the output bearing on the transfercase. Check that out along with everything else.

Pretty sure I've found the problem.

1 is a bad output seal on the TC. That causes the leak.

The other is a missing bolt and three loose bolts on the housing that couples the TC to the tail end of the tranny. I took the drive shaft out an tried to move the output shaft and it was solid. So, I tried to move the tail end of the TC around and sure enough it moved a little. So after some looking I saw that the movement was happening at the tail end of the tranny but I could see how it bolted up to that coupler. Well, I could see how becuase where I was looking there was no bolt. Just a bolt hole. The others were loose and this was allowing the play, thus the high frequency vibe under acceleration. Now I just need to determine the bolt size and call around for it. It took a 15mm wrench to get it off. I don't have a metric dial caliper. Anyone know?
