So I just put a deposit down on this:

http://fairbanks.craigslist.org/cto/4527687500.html

Talked him down to 3200, test drove it. No play in the steering wheel, manual hubs. Shifts great, brakes work, 4wd works, and has more get up and go than I was expecting. Just a little surface rust and engine leaks a bit of oil underneath. Not perfect cosmetically (no dents though) but yeah pretty stoked! Since my K5 is in storage right now I need a rig to haul stuff.

Well I did a search on the VIN to decode what factory options the truck has could anyone break it down for me? 1GCHV33J5MF302168 1991 Chevy K3500. Thanks fellas. I am hoping for a Detroit in the back and not a Gov bomb, the seller said that there is something back there. I could not feel anything when I accelerated on the road.

Here's some pics in case the seller decides to take the ad down.

Doh!

Well I did a better search and found most of the info is accurate. I guess the only way to know for sure what the gear ratio/presence of a locker is to pull off the diff covers. I swear I won't thrash this truck :)

Detroit was only in m-series trucks .

our reg stuff got gov-loc. but in a 14ff there a lot better than smaller axle units. I run them my self with no problems.

Thanks.

Yeah its original owner was a ski lodge. I gunned it when I test drove it and I know what both a gov lock and a Detroit feel like, felt nothing really. I am hoping it is open with 4:56's. Guy said it has a locker, we shall see. Do you know what type of transfer case came in these trucks?

1 year only 4l80-e with 205 gear drive case.

and 90-91 205 were electric speedo . . along with other vehicles having the electric speedo also .

Thanks again man.

Awesome! I have been wanting a 205. I did feel 4th gear when I drove it. So I am sure I have a 4l80.:woot:

you want pan shape #7 to be a 4l80-e

#3 = th-350
#4 = th-400
#6 = 700r4
#7 = 4l80-e

and pic of back side of 205 case . note 3 bolt cover in middle . and cast iron case body .

that's right out of the gm cataloge sorry for it being all bunched all together wasn't showing that way in preview

Damn that's one hell of a truck! Perfect for an LS swap since that 4l80e already has it's own stand alone controller. Congrats, I'd have bought it in a heartbeat!
