VIN issues

I’ll start off with if this is in the wrong section please inform me on where it would be better suited or move it to where it would fit better.


I’m shopping around for a new insurance company and I’ve put the vin in from the title and off the truck and I keep getting the same message that the vin is to short on my 1978 C20. According to the online stuff I’m missing four digits on my VIN. Has anyone else had this issue?? I’m stumped and not sure what to do now

I had an issue like that because the VIN tag was missing from my 72. The PO had gotten it inspected and got a state issued Vin tag that was only 8 numbers. Played hell for a while and had to bring my title to the DMV and insurance office a couple times. Finally got em to do it though..

You'll probably have to actually go into an insurance agent office with your title to get through it. Online isn't going to work

They went to a standardized 17 digit VIN in 1981. Most folks today only know that system. You'll have to call or visit in person for anything before that. The computer only sees it as incomplete.

try having to put in vin's on a daily task for vehicle inspections . the vin info has started to roll around now for year and some other info . so it askes you is this a 1983 or the other option .

it gets to be a real p.i.t.a . . . glad i dont have to do that anymore .
