VIN number help(newbie bonehead)

One thing to note is that some states register older vehicles by year of manufacture, which for a "1980" *model* year truck could be 1979 or 1980.

In other words, some states would title my '74 as a 1973, as that's when it actually left the factory floor. Here in CA the registration lists both, just to keep us all confused /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

the body parts should all be the same the best I can tell, or at least most of them...for that I should be ok, although a grille retro would be nice..I hate reg sealed beam lights

Is this one an '80? I thought 1980 models had square headlights and the 73-79 style hood?

Only "Silverado" trim level Blazer had square headlights ( of course there are exceptions ) . All the pickups had the square ones also. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Nope, There are 2 1980 Silverado K5's and 1 1980 K10 and 3 1980 K20's running around my town and they are all bone ass stock and all have the round headlights.

Oh well, everyone knows that GM did/does some really odd stuff /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Looking at the brochures, it looks like all of the Chevy Scottsdale trim and the GMC Grand Sierra trim trucks had round headlights in 1980. This included the Blazer, Suburban, and Pickup. LMC Truck lists the round headlight bezel for the 1980 model year as well as the square one.

I can't tell from those pictures if the trucks have the 1980 "ice cube tray" grille but they both have the 79-80 hood with the small ridge on the front.

actually A was 1980

80 was last year ofr the old shorter style vin code,
81-up vin numbers are 17 digit as required by the govt, just like side marker lamps/lenses were for al vehicles of the 68 and up models years, 67's were still without any,

the L-6 engines have been available for decades, even before thw 60s lol

250 was base engine for most of the 60s and all the 70s and 80s til the engine was dropped, 292 was optional availalble engine just like 307 350 400 402, 454, etc.

1980 square lights front was with a front bright appearwnce package, and with silverado equipment,

base model std truck would not be square lights front 80,

grilel is unique, not a 79 grille, the grilles sit out further forward in 80 with square lights, just look and you can see it plain as day especialyl whehn you look at the outer perimter of the headlamp bezels lol
