If put a different body on my truck which vin # do I use? Is it possible (or legal ) to switch the plate from the old body to the new one . Thanx in advance.

swapping plate is illegal, youll have to talk to local DMV office to see what vin they want to issue for it, or a new one, make sure you have titles/papers for both vehicles before going in there though.

if not then hum id be re-thinking what you are doing, lol

good luck

Legally you should go to your DMV office for them to verify what you have done. But typically they will issue you the VIN from the frame as your registered VIN.

in ny state its the body for the vin. and if more than 50% is not origanal from the swap it has to go threw the big dmv check over and will get a special tag.

They go by the cab VIN around here. I've never seen any authority look for any other number unless they've already impounded the rig and you're sitting in a holding cell :haha:

If your VIN has been transfered (i.e. pop rivets) I have friends that have gone down both paths. Shrug and say "I don't have a clue - it came that way" gets you some grumbling and they say have a nice day. Now if you say "I just took it off to do a really good paint job" or " or "My old cab was rusted out so I transfered it when I changed the cab" doesn't go over so good.

Generally a cab swap around here means you have a different truck now.
