the vin tag should be on the dash correct? i think the previous owner put in a different dash pad and it's covering it, because i have another '80 3/4 ton and it's on the dash.

nope, not there either. i thought maybe it was on the rear drivers side door, but it's stuck closed and i can't get it open.

I think they started putting them on the dash in '78 or '79 IIRC...it probably is covered up by that other dash pad.

My old '80 K10 had the dash tag and a sticker on the drivers door.

He's just talking about the vin tag only. On the later trucks the vin number should be on a metal strip at the lower front driver's side dashpad, viewable from the outside windshield...the '79 and later dashpads had a notch cut in them for that reason I think.

I understand. The one on my 80 was viewable through the windshield from outside the truck.

i'll check tonight, need to make sure it matches the title.

any ideas on getting the rear door open. the latch from outside does nothing, the button stays pushed in. the door lock moves up and down. the inside door handle does nothing.

I'd suggest removing the inner door panel to get at the latch and stuff from there but I'm sure that was going to be your last resort. Something probably came unhooked in there...
