My 1990 V3500 came equipped with the small (9"?) electric pusher fan mounted in front of the radiator. My fan clutch fagged out a while back so I pulled the mechanical fan and shroud off and hot wired the small fan. (This works remarkably well, while I don't drive the truck a lot or in traffic jams, I think this stands as a testament to the four core thirty two inch wide radiator.) The factory temperature switch for the fan is broken (physically damaged) so I have the wire spliced onto a ground stud.

I picked up a Volvo fan that I started putting in today (battery died on the drill and I called it a day before finishing.) So now to the nitty gritty of my preponderance. Can I use the factory cooling fan wiring to spin the Volvo fan?

And a question specific to the Volvo fan: can I use the wiring on fan going through the fan controller, or do I need to go around the fan controller?

You don`t want to use the Volvo fan controller. Wire it up using a manual switch, or a temp sensor in the intake.

My main question is can I use the wiring for the stock fan to run the Volvo fan. I will not run it off a toggle switch, and I would like to avoid going through the trouble of wiring in a new temp switch and relay when GM already put all that stuff there when they built the truck.

I'm gonna wire this up myself. The factory wiring looks a little sub-par to run this Volvo fan. This thing moves some air! Got the fan installed, it was a pretty straight forward, made a few simple brackets; I have to make one last one tomorrow at work. And i gotta find some rubber to use as "flashing" to seal the fan to the radiator. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.
