My 99 Burb starts hard and idles rough. I'm told it's almost certainly the crappy injectors or the fuel pressure regulator, or both.

I'm also told that I can replace the crappy injectors with far superior 19 pound Ford injectors, and it's a 100% drop in deal. Connectors and all.

So my question is, are all Ford 19 pound 4 hole injectors the same? If not, how do I know which ones to get?
Are these the right ones?

I wish I could help you with specifics. I know that injector connector is the same as the TPI connectors, and that there are only a few common injector connectors.

Isn't there a kit that is necessary to convert the CPI over to multi-point though? I can't find anything on ebay like that. I found this though: http://www.fuelinjector.citymaker.com/Vortec_spider_fuel_injection_conversion.html Does not look to me like any conventional injector is going to work...they are all setup for a top rail/o-ring interface, looks like the Vortec poppet valves are have the tubing pressed on or shrunk over a bulge.

Those look like the old Ford SVO injectors (since discontinued), so they probably are. Nothing wrong with them, they are what I run on my TPI setup.

I can't find anything authoritative on the SVO injectors for the Vortec 454, but it's because there is so much discussion out there. Still don't see anything like "the impedence is the same, the flow rate is the same, and they are a bolt in replacement".

What are the stock injectors lb/hr rating? Need to be careful in these sorts of swaps, as these older injectors were rated at either 39 or 43.5PSI, and the Vortecs are what, 60PSI, so the lb/hour rating will change.

I honestly would be surprised if they were NOT a bolt in deal, short of the lb/hr rating.

If those are the ones you are thinking of purchasing, I'd contact that vendor (I see cruzin performance fuel injectors?) and see if they happen to know for certain. I'd hate to guess with your money.

Did a little more research, the stock GM injectors are like 23lb, @4bar. The Ford ones are 19 @3bar, so the flow should be the same. The 4 hole design is said to be superior though, and in most cases a smaller injector at a higher pressure works better.

I dug a little more and found someone who sells them as a GM 454 upgrade/replacement, so it seems like they must be the ones I'm looking for. He doesn't use the word Ford, but it's obvious they are the same, with the yellow top and all. And really, they aren't Ford injectors, they are Bosch, and Ford happens to use them. I just bought a set. Should be here Tuesday.

Let us know how it works out. The injector connectors seem to be a brand/vintage deal, so probably no issue there, hopefully nothing to worry about then.

Even the diameter of the o-ring/fitting seems to be pretty much universal, only injector body height seems to change.

Been trying to source injectors for my setup, got a couple of places to send me bad used ones to test fit, so I've had the "opportunity" to check the fitment of various, to include the SVO's. The SVO replacements will probably work for you as well, but seems the interest in the older vehicles has also dropped the number of people looking to use newer stuff.

I replaced both the injectors and fuel pressure regulator on my 1996 7.4 liter about a year ago. Had the same things going on as yours, hard starts and could actually smell a little fuel burning from under the hood once it got warm (seal was bad on an injector, so it was leaking down just barely). If you are doing one of them, do both. With the time and effort it takes to get the plenom off, you will have access to it all, so just do both.

I looked at upgrades too and never remember seeing anything about Ford injectors, but read all day long about the Bosch upgraded injectors (so probably the same thing you are reading about). I didn't end up getting them b/c they are so freaking expensive, and I am cheap. So I went with OEM upgrades. Can't remember where I got them, but do not just get OEM reman's b/c they really suck.

Now that you mention it, I have a set of Ford Racing (i.e. Bosch) injectors on my K5 and a set of green top Ford injectors in my Buick. What is this world coming to?

The OEM brand doesn't mean anything, just injector type and flow rating.

Definitely doing both at the same time. The injectors and the FPR are known failure points, so I might as well have new both, since I'm in there anyways.

Going through some old posts and realized I never answered with my results. The injectors were indeed a drop in replacement, no modification whatsoever. That and a new regulator completely fixed my hard start problem and gave me a small increase in torque to boot.
