Ok heres the deal...I bought a 5.3 and trans with the comp and harness for cheap. I want to put it in the 72...what is involved? Anyone done this yet?

just a little 5.3 eh? 
what year? how much? 
do some reading and searching on ls1tech.com and ls1truck.com.
you'll have to modify the harness. will take some time if you know what you're doing with a schematic. you could send it out to have it reworked and it will be all plug and play when you get it back.
check out currentperformance.com or speartech.com for reworking harnesses.
you will also have to get a vats system bypass module or you can have the ecm flashed removing the vats, and get a performance tune at the same time to wake that motor up!
its a cable actuated throttle body? not the fly by wire?

the motor came out of a 99 it is cable operated and I only paid 500.00 for all of it.... I can read a schematic...I helped make a 5.0 pushrod FI motor out of a 91 mustang work in a 2000 mustang GT with all the factory options still working
