Where did you get only 300 HP for the 6.0L? /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif Everything I've seen and read puts these badboys at 370 HP and like 360 TQ.

Silly Afro, I got it off GM's website. I don't think GM would put out a motor in a truck meant to be worked that made more horsepower than torque. Those 2500HD badges must up the horsepower of the 6.0L, eh? Even the Silverado SS only makes 345. You can argue and say "well, they're underrated anyway" then I'll say "so is the curb weight".

I have also drivin our family 86 305 equiped K5 and even with a manual, it SUCKED.

160 raw earth shaking ground breaking horsepower at the crank. Probably more like 145. It probably weighs no less than 4500lbs also.
I've had my truck on the dyno. It makes more power to the ground than you do at the crank.
190@5600. With jetting changes and synthetic lubricants the most I ever made was
205@5500. I don't think you can get much more than 275hp out of a 305 without losing your vacuum assist at idle. You figure at least 55hp is getting gulped up by the first generation 700R4 because the torque converter never locks up under WOT and another 20 magically disappears between the transfer case, the crappy driveline angles, and the 10 bolt.

Right now I also have a 80 K10 with a manual and fairly fresh 350 and still, not even close. My burban is a little more or a beast after the 4.56 gears, I think my quarter mile might be down into the teens by now /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif, but still no comparison. Sure there is a weight difference but there is also a HUGE horsepower difference, you cant beat more power /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif.

I run 15s with 31" rubber. If I put my pizza cutter snow tires on and gut my truck of all of its extra weight the 14s are pretty reliable.

Getting back on subject, go with the 8.1L, I know a few people with them and not a single complaint, they all love them /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

I second that motion.
