I did some trading last week and ended up with a 4 bolt main, roller cam vortec motor. And now im reading that its a reverse cooling setup? Is there any way to run my old 350 stuff on this block? or should i just go for a serp setup off a newer motor?

as long as it's not a LT-1, not sure about the newer ones after that.

I think the term most people use as reverse cooling they are mistaking for the reverse rotation of the water pump, which when using a serpentine belt, rotates in the oposite direction as one run with a V-belt.

its definetly not a LS1. in fact i traded a LS1 core for this one lol. I just thought that it needed the reverse rotation water pump to cool properly but if not... sweet :thumb:

I think the only one that requires reverse cooling is the LT1

Bingo, only the LT1 on the 2nd gen small blocks.

Reverse rotation would be anything with serp belt setup compared to V belt setup.

oops, yeah, i knew it was something like that, only reason I mentioned it was I bought a set of heads from a so-called friend/co-worker that came off an LT-1, he didn't bother to inform me that they wouldn't bolt up to any block I had. I'm still unfamiliar with the rundown of all the newer blocks, so I didn't know this either.

Right the LT1 is kind of a bastard child, only made for 5 years, but an LT-1 is old school goodness.

LT1 is the reverse flow cooling, they have the distributor on the front of the timing cover (drivin off the timing ger I believe) and the intake looks similar to the one on the Ram Jet 350.

They're pretty neat in their own right, I know a guy who put one in a 80's K10.
