How much of a pain would it be to swap in a vortec era ?'90-'99? set of gauges. I like the layout and in theory it would be cheaper then aftermarket stuff. It would be in to a custom dash so fitment wouldn't be an issue. I guess the question is can the be wired to work?

Just thinking out loud...

I can't find the thread at the moment, but one member actually grafted a complete dash out of a newer truck and had all the stock gauges working. It was pretty trick, and yet looked right at home in his truck.

Hes got aftermarket gauges in it, pretty sweet setup though. I am wondering if it is possible to just take the gauge cluster out and get it wired and working in my '73 with a flat aluminum dash

That shouldn't be an issue, just have to provide the appropriate signals and proper power. Biggest issue I can see is if any of it runs through the computer you may have an issue getting the proper signals to the gauges.
