What headers are y'all running? Good fitment?

I have some vortec heads in the machine shop at the moment. :D

Still need a cam, and a intake as well.

They use the same setup as any other SBC, so fitment isn't an issue with Vortecs.

Hedman makes some good, reasonably priced headers (do a search for the thread with the recommended part numbers) but it really depends on what you can afford. Buy the best header you can afford, or you'll deal with more problems like exhaust leaks and rust than you care to.

Edelbrock TES headers. Driver's side spring shackle bolt likes to hit the Y-pipe, it's got a nice dent. Attempts to move the Y over were unsuccessful, it always somehow reverted ...
I used an EGR spreadbore intake, and piped the exhaust gas for EGR from the O2 sensor port back to the EGR port on the intake. Passed smog in AZ. Cam is still stock, never got around to that, and probably won't by now.

Alright, thanks guys! I guess I was thinking a specific style header was needed since the intake is different.

But.... I guess I'll have to wait until I find some better heads.

Just got mine back

Yeah, this is why I don't really recommend Vortecs at all...EQ cylinder heads or the like produce some knock offs that are better castings.

Hope you didn't pay for these, but I suspect you now have to at LEAST pay for some machine shop labor?

Thats not too bad I suppose, better to not have to shell out the $10 though! They should give you $110 back then.

I thought the Vortec head cracking was a myth before, you'd expect that new stuff would be better than this, but I suspect it's from operating outside of the temp range they were designed for...the ones my friend got that were cracked came from a motor the owner KNEW had been overheated. Still, it seems like they are so thin that it only takes a small amount of heat before they do this.

Hopefully he'll give me my money back, if not that he said if I had any cracks I could trade them for some others.

Too bad i got the only set of Vortec heads :(

Took the heads back yesterday and he said that he would look around some places he knows for another set. :D

Hopefully he finds me a set, and hopefully they don't have cracks. :crossesfingers:
