Vortec heads What cam to use?

Get something a little higher on the exhaust dur/lift. That will help the vortecs seeing as how thats their stock week point.

Seal against the front of the block. It's been a long time since i've had a vortec engine in front of me but IIRC the front block surface has a different shape and thus the cover may not seal on the front of the older style (non vortec) block.

I got the motor pulled out of the sub today and I will tear it down tomorrow. I really think its going to work. That vortec cover looks like it is going to work perfectly. But I will let you guys know when I do. Stomis, I plan on useing the vortec cam. Do you mean something different?

The cover bolted up perfect. I had to remove the dowell pins from the older block to make it work because the vortec cover has pins molded in to cover. I should have it in next week. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Oh shiz page 5, Alright guys i got the motor in the sub and it runs like a raped ape. The ONLY problem I ran into was the cam thrust plate. On the old block there was no thrust plate, on the vortec it uses a thrust plate. I took two thrust plates and cut the ears off of both and welded them to make a wider bolt pattern. This can be done. So specs are a 92 350 block and vortec cam, homebrew thrust plate, vortec cam, vortec heads, lifters. pushrods, vortec timing chain, and waa-laa! Thaks for your advice.

Or you could have bought the correct thrust plate (GM # 10088128) from gmpartsdirect.com for $8.20. You sure better hope that the plate you welded doesn't break.
