Vortec motor ?'s

The 1st GM called vortec was the 93-95 CPI Vortec 4.3

It didn't last long.

I still think the 96-00 vortecs are great in stock form.
They could use a little more cam, and about another 500 rpm to be perfect on the street, but for an off road engine it would be fine

I agree.

I think the L31 Vortecs are a real good engine aside from a couple problems, like the intake gaskets and the spider, which there are upgrades for. Yes the LS series engines are a superior engine all around, but where I am located, they are not easy to find from a private party. So you are left with a wrecking yard as a source. Then you are talking $$$$. The L31's can be found easier and for less $$. Then you can afford to make some upgrades. Someday I will have a LS engine, but in the mean time I will be happy with my L31 Vortecs.

If you do go with a vortec, I have 4bbl 4150 style, "carb to TBI" adapter, $15, so you could put a vortec motor in, with a 4bbl Edelbrock or other similar manifold and then put your TBI on it.

I think the vortec motors are good, I have a 96 1/2 ton truck with 350 vortec(that I bought with 139,000 miles on it) and I have had to replace the intake manifold gaskets after I bought it, and then I replaced the spyder, but once you do that, your good for a long time. They're still good up to 400 hp. plus all your accessories will bolt on it and your exhaust.
Remember, nothing from your old truck will bolt up to a 5.3 or 6.0.

So has anyone here done a tbi to vortec swap? Wouldn't even have to do any custom tune if everything stayed stock correct?
