no not those deals they sell on latenight TV the `pre-filter' on my `87 TBI intake boot, the list of options shows a `pre-filter' and i must assume thas what it is,(the tubular part of the intake from the core support),and as i figger it it just spins the air and gets any moisture out witch (theoretically) drop out the vent on the bottom,,,anyway =what's the point!?,i'm certain the heat riser in the air filter canister retricts air flow and i'd guess this does too so=what's the BEST air filter setup?

advice

i don't have to worry about any smog testing where i live so a `visual' inspection won't be done on it i'm going to attemp to achieve the best milage and power possible so looking at this thru an old hot rodders eyes i would assume the motor would breath easier without restrictions of any kind i'm going to run it without any boot from the factory filter to rad. support and see if it runs any better, just curious why GM incorporated it in the design in the first place?

I have noooo clue wth your talking about.... how about a pic? every 87 tbi setup i've seen is the same, tophat in support, corrugated intake tube, air cleaner assembly... where is this pre-filter your talking about?

The tube from the radiator support to the air cleaner housing is so that you get COLD air and not HOT under the hood air. An engine will run much better with the coolest air you can get. Also the people that run an open element air cleaner or flip the lis on their air cleaner are hurting the performance by allowing hot air rsther than cold air. Yes you may get more air flow but it will be HOT airflow.

Is he refering to the tube and tophat?

original poster... The stock setup flows more than enough air for a stock tbi...

You really want to increase performance on that end, get a power charger...

maybe it's something special

dunno!,,,the sticker in the jockey box has=pre-filter on it as an add-on option, the `boot' directly from the radiator support has this `vortex' wind vane looking deal cast into it,this rig came from the bakersfield cal area has an `order#' so maybe it was a state rig or something wierd,it's definatly from a dusty area as the whole intake tract is coated in dust and the front of the rig/windshield is sandblasted, maybe it's a low production special order deal:confused: guess i better look around and see what every other `87 TBI has on it

so from perusing the site it appears i can upload direct from my computer=?,everything is dead cell phone needs recharged got a new zillion photo card for my camera for christmas but the batterys all need recharged,i'll take a pic (with BAT light flashing)and see what kind of damage i can do;)

I'm completely confused but if you're having trouble understanding it all i think you can get a cold air induction kit (or w/e it's called) and you'll get more cold air rather than hot. No idea if this answers your question cause i'm not sure what exactly you're asking.

I'd try puttin a period or hitting the enter key a couple times as to not fuirther confusion. Not tryin to be a dick but just sayin it'd make it clearer :D

hope this works!

here's a pic i juuuust took(about 2 beers ago:D lesseee if it blows the screen up,this is looking down the intake boot that attaches to the `tophat' from the TBI side

AHA! there you have it,,,weird isn't it?,i would guess it would spin the water out but as for spinning the dust i have questionshahaha,,,i just look at it like it's a restriction and i understand about cold air being better tha warm,,anybody have one of these!? 87 K5 350 TBI this IS the front part of my air BOOT that connects to the tophat it rides in a brace mounted on the inner fender in a clamp with one bolt holding it,,,,,,,,,,,,OK here's the option code# direct off the option sticker on the jockeybox lid=9K-46 `air cleaner pre-cleaner',,,,i rust my case and let those here with untold K5 wisdom speak;)

All I can say is that K46 appears to be a valid RPO.

Probably a restriction as you say, I'd have no problems removing it and putting a stock piece in place. :)

Edit: I'm sure it works, it obviously isn't something everyone needs though.

ok

so i guess i can say wow!,,,a specialty item of some sort from GM,the `thing' appeared to be a normal part of the air boot system that i assumed was on all TBI motors, the vane is cast inside(with) the housing=it's one piece, since i'm such a goob about fuel injection i figured at first it was a MAF sensor of some sort but no wires connect to it,guess i'm looking for a `normal' boot at this point(longer than the halfboot it has) and thanxs for the replys!(i thought this might be on a lot of Blazers? but that's why i joined CK/5more cooffffeeeee;)
