Im going to swap my 1979 NP205 into my 1991 k5 replacing the NP241.

What would be the easiest or cheapest way to convert the 205 to use the VSS?

Are all the 205s the same, can i replace the speedo gear with a reluctor ring and how does that calibrate for actual vehicle speed? I will be running 14ff/60 with 5.13 and probably a 38" tire. I am not very versed on 90/91 ecm progamming, i just bought the truck and will be tearing into it shortly.

Or is jagsthatrun.com the best solution?
Thanks

There are VSS tail shafts ans such for the 205. 1991 was the only year for the VSS 205 also. Someone posted how to convert a 205 to VSS here.

you can converte a older 205 to a vss. I did this using a reluctor ring from a NP 233 im sure the one from the 241 will work too. I did reduce the width of the ring on a lathe just a little bit, i think drilled and tapped the rear housing of the 205 and was done. being you already have a 91 u just need to plug into the stock wiring. As for speedo correction you will need to modify your vss buffer there is a tech article on this site telling how to do so

1991 Crewcabs are the only GM vehicles to have a NP205 with VSS. Go to your local dealer and see if they have the gear and sensor. If you have those two parts, you can make it work in a cable speedo 205 case, the output shafts are the same.
