Hey boys,

I lost my front drive shaft last time out so thought I would run limiting straps, but am not sure the best way to mount them, so...let's see some pics!

Here is mine.....it's gangsta

Never mind it's on my heep though. A lot of guys run them with there shock mounts.

I was wondering the same, if it is better to run two at the shocks or run one at a center point to articulate better.

Well, it all kind of depends. Does your driveshaft pull out only when the front unloads or when the diff side is at fool droop? I built a square driveline shortly after I put the limit strap on there.

I just put a longer one on even after the new driveline due to the suspension design (not mine, PO built it). Anyways, some guys, mostly linked suspensions will run straps at the shocks and the center of the axle.

Slight hijack:
How much do limiting straps help out on the street with say really soft suspension? Will limiting the travel a lot be enough? I'm considering going with 63"s in the rear after doing 52"s front.

That's what sway bars are for. It might work I guess, but you would have to remove them to wheel.....

Hmmm... I never thought of welding the tab right to the axle housing, that might work Is the bumpstop mount ever been an issue?

I only need to limit the side with the diff. At first, the front drive shadft was bottoming out but now that I added teh zero rates it drops out...It is almost like the splines on the drive shaft are not long enough.

.
Nope. I have not had any probs with this set up. It sound like you might wanna get a longer front shaft and strap it.

Yes but with x over the swaybar wont work. And yes they would be removed.

You need to buy good monotube shocks. If you aren't spending at least $100per, you're not getting what you need.

Good point, they will make a big difference. Maybe the ones where you have different adjustments.....like the ranchos.

I ran the Edelbrock EAS ($19 each) from summit and when I first got them, man what a difference...granted I have wrecked them already and am looking at the Bilsteins...

B_to_C is running those IAS shocks that were on clearance and they didn't last him long either. I think it's because they aren't being used for the correct application.

One thing to note, the reason those IAS shocks were so cheap is because they have changed over from twin-tube to monotube.

Why use Rancho adjustable shocks when you can get monotube shocks that adjust themselves. This is the best explanation I have:

The deflective disc design used in most monotube shocks is self-adjusting. Ranchos are fixed valving, what you set them at is what you get whether bombing down a washboard road or in Stupid-Low crawling over rocks. The deflective discs in a monotube change the metering size depending on how fast the tire is moving, so they change their valving to suit what ever it is that you're doing - without your needing to do anything with them.

Glad to hear that I am not the only one who smoked those shocks...It was still worth it as I want to make sure I have all my mounting etc...figured out before I order the shocks. Going to use Ford towers in the front and through the floor a la your write up, for the rears.

when you buy your shocks, make sure they have enough clearance at the top of the ford towers. my fox shocks wouldn't clear ,, had to modify so much it wasn't worth buying the towers.:doah:

Yep, B_to_C has decided to go with better monotubes too.

Sorry for the high jack. I'll post pics of my limit strap when I'm done with it. I'm going to do a center limit strap in the rear because of driveshaft binding issues.

I think I have what I need for limiting straps, passenger side in the front...just need to take some measurements and make a little bracket to weld to the tube..

WEll, here is my thinking. The driveshaft can only come out at full droop on the passenger side. I guess if they come in pairs I might add on to each side just in case...Actually, depending on what shocks I end up going with, it might make sense to limit travel on both side to avoid stretching out the shock.
