Want to drop my '84 K5 Blazer

What if you ditched the front axle and transfer case, got a length of heavy wall 3" DOM tube, and made your own "dummy" front axle...similar to the 2wd Jeep Cherokees.

You could retain all the steering gear off the 10-bolt and do a spring under conversion in the process. The absence of the front differential may allow you enough clearance for the oil pan.

You would also loose at least 300-lbs of extra weight by ditching the front axle and t-case.

That would be called a "Gasser" common in the late 50's and through the 60's . They ran the front end up higher for weight transfer though .

Ever see an old drag 55 Chevy with the nose up , then it was more than likely on a solid front axle tube , like an old truck

I would try to find out if you could just bolt on the 2wd components off of a C-10. The frames caint be that different.

Run the BIG 572 $14,000 and more HP than you will ever use. I saw one on Ebay yesterday check it out.... I will also have to vote swapping for a 2WD maybe a body swap??

If you don't want to turn the steering wheel..... :surepal:

big blocks and handling = bad.

that is unless were are talking about the aluminum block beast known as the ZL1....

In fact i changed my vote to a ZL1 454. ONLY 15 grand

good luck finding a ZL1 454, since A) ZL1s are very rare, and B) all ZL1s were 427s.

droped k5s are pretty tight cuz u dont see many of em.. there was a black one on ebay like a few months ago.

i just dont like the rims

its a 2wd
but yea id rather go for something lifted

the true ZL1 is from a 69 corvette/camaro (69 camaros and 2 corvettes were built with this motor from the factory)

i say do a spring under with some 2" tall spring perches for the front and 2wd spring brackets on the rear. just watch the oil pan clearance (or you could dry sump, $$$$)

run the 502 (or the 572 :deal: :deal: ). the BBC only weights 130 lbs more than a SBC, put some aluminum head on it and loose that beer gut. :cool1:

I figured ZL1 454 was a give a way....

130 pounds is still alot of weight to have especially up front... thats the reason the vette could run identical lap times with the viper a couple years ago even tho it had 100 less hp. Suspension on the vette was better but ask any road racer, 130 lbs is a lot for a road machine to have up front.

I'd take a supercharged 383 over a 502 any day for a road machine.... a lifted truck thats allowed to get dirty is a different story.

By the way don't forget about world's 454 SMALLBLOCK. better numbers than a 502 and less weight.

Is this intended to be a sort full size Typhoon/Syclone kind of truck, or more like a full size WRX rally car(truck)?

In Road Racing, roughly every pound of unsprung weight you can loose is equal to 10 lbs of sprung weight. If you want street/race course handling you need to loose the front live axle's huge unsprung weight. Wouldn't hurt to loose the rear live axle as well. You can make live axles work on a road course, but for the time & money you'll have invested in doing so you could've made an IFS work much better.
