It will have to be a pretty heavy chunk, due to the way the winch mounts. The front edge has to be tall enough to bolt the winch in place and thick enough to handle the stress of winching. If it twists under load it will cause the winch drum to bind.
I'm going to use 1/4" or thicker, also i have a hitch i'm planning on cutting down and just put that betwwen the rail in the front. Also i'm trying to have no drop for the winch. Any ideas or drawings will help thanks.
I have made a multi-mount for a WARN upright, and I have but 1 thing to say HEAVY!!!! U have to make it sooo strong that it's 2 much for 1 person to put in and take out
I made a replica of the center part of a WARN winch bumper just wide enough for the winch, and put that on an insert.
With the winch itself weighing in at (according to Warn) 110 lbs + whatever the mount will weigh just seems impractical. Assuming you are Hercules and the weight doesn't matter, do you really think a reciever mount can deal with 8000 lbs of pull? I'm sure anything less than a perfect straight pull would bend things out of shape.
I got the winch for a good deal and the rear end already has the wiring for it. I'm a big guy i'll be able to move it in the range of 200-250. I'm planning on a stong front end.
Thanks
