How much would a warn 8074 be worth it appears to be in fairly good shape. Is it worth bothering with or should i keep looking for an 8274

IIRC that's one of the early Bellevue-derived models, like it doesn't have power out, only in, or somesuch.

Acha, a little googling says it doesn't *freespool*, i.e. ONLY powers in or out. Means it's harder on the battery to spool the cable out. OTOH, you can switch parts from an 8274 to give it this ability...

You might see if this one has had the mod done, as it's not unusual, apparently.

What's an 8074?

Does it look like this?

I NEVER use the free spool on my 8274, its slow and sucky.

The power out is MUCH faster and the only way to go, so IMO there is no real downfall to the 8074.

I'd say an 8074 in good shape is probably worth $300-400.

So what you guys are saying is that the free spool dosent work very well on an 8274 any ways and thats the only diffrence? There is a guy here local that has one for 400 bucks and is gonna help me make a mount for my truck. So it dosent sound like that bad of a deal then. Does any thing have to be changed to put a new motor on it if the need ever arises?

The freespool on an 8274 works fine, just like any other winch.

Using power out is much faster (with a super fast winch like the 8074/8274) and much easier on whoever is pulling out the cable.

Is $400 a good price for a 8074 with out knowing if it works or not? It is complete and appears to be in good shape.

I put a new motor on mine. Got it off ebay for around $100. Just unbolt the Sol. pack and the 2 motor mount bolts and reverse the procedure for install. Took me about 20 min. And the new motor was double the HP of the old one.
