Has anyone ever been able to mount one somewhat hidden? I just ended up with one, but I had always planned on having a hidden winch. This appears it would be a bit more challenging with how it's mounted upright and everything. I assume I have to mounted vertically like that, any other options?

my game plan is to mount an electric under my bed.. and mount a roller fairlead into my double tube rear bumper...

then mount a hydraulic behind the front double tube and do the same......
anything can be concealed.. just gotta find that good spot..

I have an 8274 Im rebuilding right now... honestly, its gonna be pretty hard to "hide" anywhere up front. It must be mounted vertically, can't really lean it back/forward to squeeze it in somewhere. I'm not gonna mount mine until I narrow the front end of my rig but I think if I go with electric fans and move the rad/fans back close enough to the engine... and sink the winch down between the frame rails about as far as a skid plate will allow, that I can tuck her in there pretty good.

Hmm, I do have electric fans....

This things really more of a beast than I expected. At least I know it'll get the job done though. Hopefully I can find a good way to get it mounted somewhat discretely, I just don't want it drawing that much attention to itself.

what reason do you want it hidden for exactly? if its theft protection, there are other ways to protect a winch... though it being hidden from sight is a good one too!
