Warn 8274 Question...

I have done some searching but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. I found a used Warn 8274 for $200.00 that I would like to buy and rebuild for my truck. The guy says its from the 70's and I just want to make sure that one of this vintage will be as good as the newer ones. I know that all 8274's are relatively similar but is their any reason I should steer away from one this old and will I be able to locate parts just as easy as for the newer winches? It should be fine, I have an older model that I re-built. I had to update the brake to the one currently being used to get parts but that was it. I needed brake pucks, but they don't sell them anymore. New style has a ring shaped friction material. Got all the parts from Warn except the motor. I got it re-built at a local shop.

Buy it they rock most electrical parts can be found at any parts store...If the motor is blown the new warn 5hp motors will bolt right on
fastest line speed 150ft line capacity I love mine!

no way no matter what model buy it i have one from the 70 to it was on my dads racecar trailer since it was bought and its been sitting in the weather eversince and all i did was redue the battery leads and bolt it n my bumper now it works like new

Yeah they are great! I paid 400$ for mine, 200$ is a steal! Get a snatch block so you can double it it up if needed. I was looking and the 16000 lb winches are about half the speed of the 8274, same as you will be doubled up. Only difference is single line you are the fastest.

I could leave my 8274 at the bottom of the ocean for a couple years and it would still be more reliable than import winches.

$200 is a steal, jump on it before someone else does

Thanks for all the replies it is much appreciated! I'm gonna pick it up tomorrow and start the rebuild! I have seen these in action and are the only way to go as far as I am concerned. I can't wait to get this thing mounted up. Thanks again!

Thanks for the link. That is the process I am going to follow to clean mine up. Looks like when I'm done I will have a great winch with a small investment. Thanks again for the replies!
