how much power should I expect out of this winch (8274) it's an older one but not used much....hooked up to a tree it will pull my K5 forward in park but with "some" effort (kind of bearing down)skidding along slowly....what would it cost to get the motor rebuilt and where....if it needs it....thx

I have an 8274 that my dad bought in 1973, the best bet is to just go onto warns website and find a local dealer in parts. I bought a new motor and seal kit, and brake kit and rebuilt mine, it will now out pull a freinds 10000lb winch. It wasnt the cheapest route to go, but I have had freinds have there motors rebuilt and it didn't last, buy Warn direct replacement parts is the best route in my mind,,you'll save in the long run, especially when you really need it,

Never been stuck, just temporarily delayed.

First off, that is extrememly hard on your tranny. If you want a new motor (not suggesting that you need one), I read the other day that the new 4.6 hp Warn motor is a direct bolt on and a big impovement. I think the guy said it was like $200, I read it either here or on Pirate.

That's a really good winch if it is in good working order. It's about the only winch that Warn makes that's worth a darn in my opinion.

Never put a stupid move passed a stupid person.

I really like mine. Used a guys 9000 something or other Ramsey a month ago, wasn't impressed at all. Too slow, not as much power.
