Ok so I almost done (ha yeah right ) with my x over and 52" swap but I cant get the knuckles off to put my flattop ones on. I've got the warn manual hubs mostly dissasembled but I cant figure out how to take the rest of them out. I assume I probably need a special tool to get this out?

What I've taken out so far:

52" swap progress: I've got the front hangers bolted up too but my camera ran out of space :doah:

Someone left a note at my door saying that while the rest of the neighborhood is making their driveways nice I'm making mine look worse and its permenately damaged or somethihng :dunno: :haha:

yes, you need a spindle nut to take the spindle nuts off and the rest of the process will be self explanitory.

Ok sweet I figured. Easy enough to find (vatozone, etc)? And are they gm specific or universalish?

the 4 pronger which you need is the common 1/2 ton socket...it's like 9bucks or so and VERY COMMON> you'll take that nut off, then a washer, then another nut just like it....then your bearing will fall out when you remove the hub assy. so be careful not to drop it.

haha I am ahead of you in the putting my x over on!!!! I cant wait to get mine finished!

Well apparently not common enough, cause I called autozone and they only had the 6 prong and only for rent for $15. So Ill call kragens and if not then Ill go to the local 4x4 shop

Assembly is not quite as simple. The innermost nut has a prong that sticks out. The washer between the two nuts has holes in it. Make sure you engage that prong with one of the holes in the washer. It keeps the inner nut from backing off. Once you get it apart and clean, you will understand.

also, when your putting the middle(washer) on...if it doesn't line up just right then flip it 180degrees and try again. the holes aren't always exactly perfect on them and it will probably fit the other way. while your in there, i would replace bearings/races/seals too....cheap insurance. i bought both my sockets at advance auto parts for like 20bucks for both, the big six, and the little four. good luck man.

Ha weak. It's not easy when you work full time and dont know what your doing

And kragens sucks even more, I call and ask and the chick says something really fast I couldnt understand and puts me on hold for 8 mins till i eventually hang up

Ok I found the spindle nut socket. I found an auto parts palce that has everything and they actaully know their stuff. The guy I was talking to has a chevy flatbed d60 14b with a 8" lift or so on 38"s. :D

Anyways HOW are you guys getting this nut off? I think I got it to move a little, but very little and its still as tight as ever. And I'm, using a big square pipe (my soon to be dshaft) for leverage and theres no way its coming off. Its harder of course with the front end not bolted up cause the axle moves around but still I'd think it would come off unless its torqued down to like 5000 ft/lbs or something.:confused: Is it right hand threaded or something??? Is it supposed to be this hard???:confused:

it's a normal nut with normal threads....is the problem the socket is popping out on you??? that happens alot. it sounds like yours may be very very tight. set the axle on jackstands, then set a jackstand under the yoke on the pumpkin, that should cause it to stop spinning on you. you can also put a rachet strap on the socket to hold it into place while you get some leverage on it. they're not supposed to be very tight at all though...so you may have problems.

BUT....just hought of this, there may be something locking the nut into place...look around the outside of it, there may be some type of bent metal tab or snap ring or something holding it in place. so far i've seen about eleventy billion different types of spindle nuts. haha.

ok I bolted up the axle by the front hangers, looked for snap rings or anything holding it on and couldnt find anything, straped it on, put the smaller square tub over the ratchet and then the bigger receiver tube over that and still it wouldnt loosen and eventually popped off.:mad:

depending on who put it together, I am sure it is just tight. The outer nut that you are trying to get off is the "lock" nut for the inner one, It keeps things from backing off, If it was done at a shop, it was probably put on with an air gun, and will probably need one to come off.

Did you get it installed yet?

I have been dealing with autozone and they were a PITA!

I probably work more hours than you do in a week. Well let me change that. I am away from home being I work a 72 hour shift. My only saving grace is I get 96 hours off. I wish it wasn't that way but I have to pay the bills somehow.

Post up some more pics when you finish it!:D

No theres seriousl no way thats coming off. I even started my truck up to run the compressor so I could use my impact wrench. No luck, the wiring for the compressor got all messed up somehow so it wont run. And considering my impact gun is kinda broken and only sometimes works, it probably wouldnt ahve mattered. Somehow i must not be doing something right because theres no way its that tight. By putting on an extension and putting a jack under the extension close to the ratchet, and with the pipe over the rathcet i was able to put all my body weight on the end of the pipe without it popping out and it didnt budge.

But on the plus side, it was nice hearing that 350 with headers and flows start up again :D

Oh and btw I work 8-7 shifts (somtimes I get out a little early like at 4 or 5) M-F and this week I'm working sat too. I dunno how many hours that is I'm too lazy to figure it out, but theres only a couple hours once I get back before it gets too dark to work. And I gotta get this done by sep 1st. I wanna go wheel!

ok. get you some PB blaster, or similar product and spray it in there before you go to work...then when you get off, you can try again...if that fails and you seriously can't get this thing off...worst comes to worse you can bust out the dremel and VERY VERY VERY CAREFULLY kill that sob. haha....cut her out....but, if you hit the threads on the spindle...they can be a biatch to repair(ask me how i know) haha. i would do that absolutely last though. you can buy new spindle nuts through a drivetrains shop or through some very good sellers on ebay. good luck man.
