I have Warn hubs now… but they are throwing some grease around the rims. Not sure if any o ring or something is bad. I did notice the end cap has a little play in it...and wont tighten anymore. So I got a new set... the WARN premiums. Search on here and found some good install instructions ( I have never done this before) MY question… how much grease do I use on the new hubs… so I just smear a good coat all around the hubs?

any other good tips? seems like a pretty easy job from what I read. Just a few snap rings..

I use ATF. That way when it gets cold, it doesnt get super hard to turn.

yeah, don't pack the hubs, it will make it hard to turn the knob since the splines are moving inwards, effectively compressing any grease you have in there.

Warn's instructions specifically say DO NOT grease the hubs. All I ever do is put a thin layer on the outside where they make contact with the internal splines of the wheel hub.

Perfect… now one more question - since I already have Warn hubs on the truck right now…do I need to take out the clips in the very back? Or just take out the 2 clips in the front… remove old and reinstall new hub and cap ?

What clips in the very back?

Take the 6 bolts out. Pull the dial out. Pull the snap ring off the stub if you have a 10 bolt, pull the internal ring off the wheel hub for d44 and 10 bolt, fish the actually hub gear out.

Reverse directions.

I think I’m trying to make this harder than it really is… basically this is what I do?
(remember I currently have Warn Hubs now)

1. Remove the cap screws… take the cap off.
2. Remove the small retaining ring
3. Remove the big circle lock ring or C clamp.
4. pull out the old hub
5. Clean up everything and lightly grease the new stuff
6. Install new stuff in reverse.

That is correct.

Essentially, like this:

Remove outer snap ring, as indicated.

Now, these next two steps may seem obvious.
But it stumped me for a few minutes.

(Sometimes I lack common sense.) :dunno:

Removing the "inner" snap ring, is acheived by pulling this clip...

Out of this hole...
*(Note the two snap ring ends, one on each side of the retainer-clip hole.)

I used a pair of snap ring pliers to squeeze the inner snap ring ends together. (See above pic.)

I simultaneously pulled the allen bolt, to slide the auto-locker out of the hub.

Out of the hub...

You can see How the snap ring is held in....

success, thanks guys. I did notice the new bolts holding the new hubs were not as wide. The old warn standard hubs had slightly thicker/stronger bolts... go figure... doesn’t make sense.
