I guess this isn't specific to the Warn bumper, but is there a difference between a mid 70's front bumper mount, and a later model (say 1989) bumper mount?

I found a Warn bumper nearby on a '74 that is being parted out. The guy wants $250 for it, and it looks old... so I'm only kind of sort of thinking about it.

I've got a bumper that looks just like it on my 84 K5. Mine's also for a 5687. He wants 500 bucks for that old 5687!?!? That's a 50 dollar winch. I don't know if I'd pay 250 for that bumper. In my area we can get bumper and winch for $100 but maybe it's different in your area. If you want to put a 8274 on it you will have to drill new mount holes as the 5687 and 8200 have a different pattern.

My brother purchased a warn winch bumper (old school style) that was mounted on a 88 or 89 suburban and then mounted it onto his 78 K5. There is a small mounting difference. I think it was 1 bolt was in a somewhat different location, but he just drilled it out to make it work. It was a no biggie.

Thanks guys,

Yeah I'm not sure I want to pay $250 for that bumper, maybe $100. Think I'll wait.

The earlier bumpers bolt directly to the frame horns while the later bumper has brackets between the bumper and frame.

I believe there are a few variations of this bumper over the years. I have seen them with a 3 piece design with a heavy and lighter design outer and bolt on top plates and I have seen some lighter and heavy one piece designs.

Mine is pretty heavy one piece design with welded diamond plate top. I paid $200 and it was in pretty decent shape with nice chrome but no brackets. I've seen them cheaper but never near me. A local fabricator made some custom brackets with an extra crossmember near the front spring hangers along with some bracing for clevis mounts up front.
